According to Ayurveda, Vata comprises air and ether, i.e., the winds of the body and mind. It is responsible for all the movements in the body, including regulating the nervous system, the flow of breath and blood, elimination of wastes. 

 

Vata shares the qualities of these elements: dry, cold, rough, mobile, light. The excess of those qualities causes Vata imbalance. 

 

Signs of Vata imbalance include:

Physical:

  • Constipation
  • Gas formation or distension in the abdomen
  • Dehydration
  • Dry and rough skin
  • Pains and general body-ache
  • Astringent taste in the mouth
  • Loss of strength, fatigue, low vitality
  • Disturbed or lack of sleep
